Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.
Chief executive
Big Hearts Community Trust, the charity partner of Heart of Midlothian football club, has promoted Craig Wilson to general manager.
Wilson joined Big Hearts in 2015 as communications and fundraising officer and now leads the charity, reporting to the board of trustees.
Fundraising and communications
ActionAid UK has hired Edward Tait as director of fundraising. Tait comes from the homelessness charity Crisis, where he has been director of fundraising since 2012.
Tait was at Crisis for 15 years in total, in roles including supporter appeals, supporter services, legacy and philanthropy fundraising.
Big Hearts Community Trust has appointed Caryn Kerr as fundraising and development manager.
Kerr, who joined the charity in 2015 as general manager, will work on developing fundraising streams including corporate partnerships and grant funding.
Finance and strategy
The Charity Retail Association (CRA) has appointed Irina Preda as its new administrator. She has taken over from Gemma Gittens who has left due to relocation.
Preda will be handling member enquiries and database related tasks, will have responsibility for some event management activities, as well as running the CRA’s office.
She moves from Resource for London, an organisation based in the same building as the CRA, where she was running event co-ordination.
The CRA has also appointed Emma Cranmer to a new post of research administrator. Her job is to assist in all aspects of the association’s research activity, including promoting its research, chasing responses, and processing and analysing data.
Cranmer has a background in data analysis and research with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
The CRA has also appointed Alex Angelakis to provide maternity cover for head of events, Julia Cloke. Angelakis has a background in event management for training company Government Knowledge, and he will be tasked with running the CRA’s events programme, including its annual conference.
Social Investment Scotland (SIS) has appointed two new investment managers.
Theresa Sharp joins SIS following ten years in business banking, most recently with Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) as a commercial relationship manager where she managed a portfolio of over 200 customers. Prior to LBG, Theresa held roles with HSBC and RBS.
Brian Henderson joins after spending 30 years in the banking sector. He joins from RBS where he was a relationship director for SMEs in the East of Scotland and a business mentor for start-up organisations.
Non executive
Paintings in Hospitals has announced the appointment of Andrew Hochhauser as chair of its board of trustees.
Hochhauser, who has been vice chair for the past five years, is a barrister, a bencher of Middle Temple, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a deputy high court judge.
He succeeds James Prichard who, after more than eight years as a trustee and six years as chair, decided in September 2017 to step down from the board. Pritchard is chairman and chief executive of Agatha Christie Limited.
Inderneel Singh, managing director of the luxury May Fair Hotel, has joined hospitality charity Room to Reward as an ambassador.
Room to Reward uses donated unsold hotel rooms as a mechanism for charities to gift their staff and volunteers a short break.
Singh, a chartered accountant, joined the May Fair Hotel as general manager in 2014 before taking up the position of managing director.
