Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.
Chief executives
Ropinder Gill has been appointed as the new chief executive of Lymphoma Action. She will join the charity from Peace Hospice Care where she has served as director of income generation and director of fundraising since 2014. Gill has worked in the charity sector for more than 17 years, including at the Epilepsy Society and The Children’s Society.
Action in Rural Sussex (AirS) has appointed Petrina Mayson as its new chief executive. Chantal Wilson, chair of the board, said: “Whilst it will be very difficult to say goodbye to Jeremy Leggett as CEO, we are thrilled that Petrina will be joining AirS in that role at the end of July. There are many challenges ahead but Petrina has the energy and determination to meet those challenges and to ensure that AirS serves the rural population of Sussex to the best of its ability.”
Fundraising and communications
The MS Society has announced that Emma Whitcombe will become executive director of fundraising at the charity. She’s previously held fundraising leadership roles at Save the Children and the National Autistic Society. She has worked at the MS Society since 2014 when she was brought in to develop a new, transformational fundraising campaign to raise money for MS research. To date, it’s raised in excess of £33m. She is replacing Paul Amadi who is moving to the British Red Cross.
Caley Eldred has been appointed as director of supporter engagement heading up the fundraising & marketing team at The Royal Star & Garter Homes. She joins the charity, which provides specialist care for veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia, in state-of-the-art care homes, on 9 July.
Previously the director of development at the youth charity City Year UK, Caley has held director level roles at both the food-waste charity FareShare and special care baby charity Bliss, as well as working at Mind and the NSPCC. She is also a trustee of the children’s education charity Nurture UK.
Finance and operations
Education Support Partnership has appointed Sinéad McBrearty to the position of director of services. She said: “As a school governor I’ve seen the relentless pressure on the education sector. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to do something to support the individual educators that make up the system. Their wellbeing is directly correlated to learning outcomes for children. I can’t think of a better way to use my skills and experience.”
Non-executive
Russ Siegelman has stood down as chair of Global Innovation Fund, an international economic development charity headquartered in London, and Kanini Mutooni has become acting chair while the charity recruits a successor.
