Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.
Chief executive
Picker, an international health and social care charity, has appointed Chris Graham as chief executive. He has been the acting chief executive since the retirement of the charity’s previous chief executive.
Fundraising and communications
NSPCC has appointed Tim Hobden as its new head of media and PR to lead a team of 35 press officers across the UK. He was previously the charity’s regional media manager. Before joining the NSPCC he was head of press for the Liberal Democrats.
Non-executives
David Farnsworth, who is the director of City Bridge Trust, has been elected chair of London Funders – a membership organisation for funders and investors in the capital. He takes over from Kristina Glenn, who has chaired the body since 2011.
The actor Michael Sheen has joined Social Enterprise UK as a patron to help champion the social enterprise movement.
He said: “Social entrepreneurship is a real force for good and the sector has grown enormously, but we are scratching the surface of what can really be achieved. Social entrepreneurs can be a dominant force but we need to raise the ambition, open more doors, communicate better with the wider public. As patron I want to work with the movement and show the world what it might mean to ‘take back control’. An economy that works for everyone, not just the few."
Anne Wafula Strike, GB athlete and Paralympian, has become an ambassador for Play for Change. Her appointment was announced to coincide with International Day of Sport for Peace and Development last Thursday.
Arsenal’s captain, Laurent Koscielny, has become an ambassador for Street League, a charity which uses football as a way to support disadvantaged young people. Koscielny is a supporter of the Epic Foundation, which connects the world's leading philanthropists and corporations with outstanding organisations focused on youth well-being. Epic chose Street League in 2016 to join their portfolio.
