Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.
Chief executive
Children with Cancer UK has appointed Dhivya O’Connor as chief executive, taking over from Cliff O'Gorman who is standing down for health reasons. She has been chief operating officer and chief philanthropy officer at the charity since 2017 having joined the charity from The Prince’s Teaching Institute charity, where she spent seven years setting up its fundraising department.
She said: "This is an extremely exciting moment to take up the CEO office, as Children with Cancer UK celebrates its 30th anniversary, shining a spotlight on the charity’s vital work, funding ground-breaking research to save children’s lives and keep families together."
Communications
Oxfam GB has appointed Steve Kingstone as communications director. He will take over from Matthew Sherrington, who has held the role on an interim basis since last August, in the autumn.
Kingstone is currently the Queen’s media secretary. He joined the palace in 2013 having previously worked at BBC News and an international correspondent.
Non-executive
The Students Exploring Marriage Trust (Explore) has elected Angus Somerville as its new chair. He takes over from Crispin Drummond. Suzie Simmons has become a trustee. She is the head of fundraising at Southampton Children’s Hospital and will help the charity to grow its fundraising.
The prime minister has appointed the journalist and broadcaster Kavita Puri as a trustee of the V&A museum. She has and reappointed Mark Sebba and Caroline Silver. Trustees serve four-year terms.
The Caretech Foundation has created an adivisory board to provide the chairity with additional expertise. The first four members of the council include Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, shadow minister for sport Rosena Allin-Khan MP and Saeed Atcha, chief executive of Xplode Magazine.
Christian Wilson, a partner and the head of the Truro Corporate and Commercial team at Stephens Scown Solicitors, has been appointed a non-executive director on the board of Eden Project Ltd.
Len Goodman, professional dancer and coach known for his role as head judge on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, has become an ambassador for Age UK.
