Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.
Chief executive
Methodist international relief organisation All We Can has announced the appointment of Graeme Hodge as its new chief executive designate. He will take up the role on a permanent basis in December of this year.
Hodge is currently the charity’s deputy chief executive and has worked in the role since April 2016. Hodge has worked in the voluntary sector for over a decade, with the majority of that time spent at relief and development organisations.
He will replace outgoing chief executive Maurice Adams who has led the organisation for the last six years.
Florian Irminger has joined Penal Reform International as its new executive director. Irminger joined the organisation at the beginning of September, replacing Alison Hannah who had previously worked for the organisation for over a decade.
Irminger joins from Human Rights House Foundation where he was previously head of advocacy at the Switzerland-based organisation. He has also previously been chair of the Board of the House of NGOs in Geneva and was also previously a member of the young leaders’ programme of the World Economic Forum.
Non executive
The British Heart Foundation has appointed Tim Howe QC to its board of trustees. A senior commercial barrister, Howe will take up his new role with the BHF in October.
Having been called to the Bar in 1987, Howe was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008. Alongside his law practice, Howe has been actively involved in a number of fundraising activities for a range of education institutions including Magdalen College, Oxford and is currently vice chair and trustee of the board of governors.
The Prime Minister has appointed eight new trustees to the board of the Science Museum Group.
Sarah Staniforth, Steven Underwood and Iain McIntosh begun four year terms on 8 August this year, while Judith Donovan and Ajit Lalvani are due to start terms on 1 February 2019, with Sir Peter Hendy, Jo Foster and Hannah Fry all due to start on 1 July 2019.
The Caretech Foundation has appointed Adrienne Kelbie as its third external trustee. Kelbie is currently chief executive of the Office for Nuclear Regulation, the UK’s independent regulator for nuclear safety and security.
Kelbie joined ONR from the Disclosure and Barring Service and was previously deputy chief executive of Hull City Council. She also worked for the Big Lottery Fund and its predecessor orgniasations.
She joins Nicholas Cheffings, chair of Hogan Lovells and former PwC partner Karen Dukes as the charity’s third external trustee.
The Royal Museums Greenwich have announced the appointments of three new trustees. Fiona Butcher, Julian Dowdeswell and Helen Czerski have been named as legal, academic and astronomer trustees of the Royal Museums.
Dr Butcher is director of legal services and company secretary of Trinity College London. Dowdeswell is a glaciologist and university lecturer, while Dr Czerski is an ocean physicist based at University College London.
All have been named to four year terms.
