Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation appoints Emma Davies as Chief Investment Officer

Nightline Association appoints first CEO

Umbrella charity the Nightline Association has recruited a chief executive as part of its new strategy to meet the emerging needs of the students it serves.
 
Katie Endacott will be their first chief executive, having worked in the charity sector for 15 years. 

Prior to joining Nightline, she was head of operations and fundraising at Frank Water. Endacott has also served as chair of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising South West.
 
Endacott said: “I am delighted to be joining the organisation at such a crucial time. The Nightline Association’s vision of ensuring every student has access to support offered by nightline services so that ultimately fewer students die by suicide is so close to my heart.
 
“This organisation has many partners in the student mental health space, which is incredible seeing as it has been led by a committed core of volunteers for many years. Now is the time to invest further, to better serve the ever growing need for our listening service.”
 
Michael Sanders also joined Nightline Association as the new chair of trustees in January.

Nightlines exist in over 30 universities across the country, and offer listening support to more than 1,500,000 students.

Victim Support appoints Katie Kempen as CEO

The charity Victim Support has appointed Katie Kempen as its chief executive.

She joins the charity from the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner, where she is currently chief executive.
 
Prior to this, Kempen was chief executive of the non-profit Independent Custody Visiting Association (ICVA) and has held several policy roles including at the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey and in local government.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Victim Support to lead the charity’s incredible work, delivering specialist, tailored support to victims, helping them to understand their rights and recover after crime. Years of experience and countless conversations with victims, has taught me just how vital this support is – for many it’s a lifeline.”

Kempen will join Victim Support in June 2023, taking over from Diana Fawcett, who is to retire after leading the charity for five years.

FEAST With Us appoints its first CEO and new chair 

Caroline Monkhouse Flower, who served as chair of the FEAST With Us board for six months, has been appointed as the charity’s first chief executive. 

The CEO role was introduced to support the charity as it expands to include services such as a new healthy-eating education programme. 

Previously chief operating officer for nutrition and food technology company Kafoodle, she was appointed following an external recruitment process. 

She said: “We have ambitious plans to expand our projects and services this year, including new community meal locations, conducting nutritional research, and launching a healthy eating on a budget education programme. 

“Sadly, there’s an increasing need for food poverty support, and we want to lead the way in identifying, delivering and co-ordinating meaningful and sustainable interventions with our partners.”

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation appoints CIO 

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation have appointed Emma Davies as chief investment officer to manage a  £1bn charitable endowment for health impact.

Davies has private and third sector experience and will be responsible for implementing the investment strategy for the Foundation’s endowment.

The foundation’s overarching endowment strategy aims to make investments that deliver long term and sustainable financial returns as well as positive health outcomes.   
 
She has held previous roles at JP Morgan, Perry Capital, the Wellcome Trust, Marylebone Partners and as the founding chief investment officer at Big Society Capital. Most recently she co-led the team at Octopus Ventures.  
 
Davies, said: “The foundation’s mission to build the foundations of a healthier society is vital in solving the collective challenges we all face as people, societies and global community. 
 
“The dual mandate the Foundation sets for its endowment to drive financial returns and health impact is ambitious, and exciting. It’s leading the way for foundations and mainstream investors in showing how we can all contribute to building a healthier society. I am looking forward to working with the Foundation to realise this shared vision.” 

London’s Air Ambulance announces director of finance, IT and facilities

London’s Air Ambulance Charity has announced the appointment Anna Bennett as the charity’s new director of finance, IT and facilities.

A chartered accountant with over 20 years of experience, Bennett holds a ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting.

She has also worked for several national charities, including as finance director for Hospice UK and as director of finance and operations for BBC Children in Need. 

Bennett has also been a trustee and audit committee member for a number of charities including NCVO and the Money Advice Trust.

She said: “I am delighted to join London’s Air Ambulance Charity at such an important time in its history, working with extraordinary people saving lives every day.  

“I’ve been a supporter of the charity for many years now, even abseiling down the side of the Royal London Hospital back in 2016 to raise funds – although this time around I hope to contribute with my feet firmly on the ground. 

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know the dedicated group of people who help make the charity what it is – whether that’s the staff, our life-saving crew or the patients across London who we work for every day.” 

Social Investment Scotland appoints board members

Social Investment Scotland (SIS), has appointed four new board members. Joining the board  are Caroline McLaughlin, Ian Mitchelmore, Samantha Bett and Kathleen McLeay.

McLaughlin founded Heriot Row Advisors to support organisations and philanthropic networks to be catalysts for impact and until recently she was chief partnerships officer at Asian Venture Philanthropy Network.

Mitchelmore has spent his career specialising in SME finance, and Bett is director of treasury for Wheatley Housing Group, one of the largest social landlords in the UK.

McLeay, who has been chief executive of NCM Fund Services since 2006, also acts as compliance officer for the group .

Ken Barclay, SIS chair, said: “I would like to welcome the new board members, who together bring a great deal of relevant expertise to our board. 

“The high calibre of the appointments reflects our leading position as a responsible finance provider in Scotland and beyond. All four new members bring a unique range of skills and experience which will be vital in fuelling SIS’ vision to build an impact economy.”

Cardboard Citizens announces trustees

Cardboard Citizens has appointed four new trustees to their board. The new trustees joining  are creative producer and playwright Marcus Bernard, actress, award-winning voice artist and employment law solicitor Ayesha Casely-Hayford, actor and writer Charlie Josephine, and social impact advisor and director of curator community for Sofar Sounds, Ajeet Jugnauth.

Lisa Briscoe, executive director and joint chief executive, said: “This injection of fresh perspectives comes at a key moment for Cardboard Citizens. We look forward to sharing what happens next with the support of a superpowered board.”

The organisation said these appointments align with the broader mission while strengthening a commitment to greater representation both within the organisation, by giving members a louder voice, and in the wider community.
