Chief executive
Modern slavery and human trafficking charity the Medaille Trust has appointed Garry Smith as chief executive. Smith will focus on driving forward the charity’s aims of supporting victims and survivors affected by modern slavery & human trafficking.
Cruse Bereavement Care, a charity for bereaved people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, has announced the appointment of Steven Wibberley as chief executive. Wibberley joins Cruse following five years as chief operating officer at the British Lung Foundation where he was responsible for a wide range of services and support for people living with lung conditions across the UK.
Sean McLaughlin has been appointed managing director of Homes for Haringey taking up the role on 3 April 2018. McLaughlin has most recently been corporate director, Housing and Adult Social Services at Islington council where he set up the housing advice and homelessness services.
Victims’ charity, Victim Support, announced that Diana Fawcett has been appointed as chief officer. Diana has worked at the charity for three years as operations director, leading the development of Victim Support’s service delivery capability. She takes over from chief executive, Mark Castle, who leaves the charity after nearly four years.
HR
The NSPCC has appointed Brett Terry as its new director of people.
Terry takes the reins from Siobhan Sheridan and joins the NSPCC with nearly 20 years’ experience of the charity sector.
The 44-year-old has held senior strategic and operational HR roles at Amnesty International, Cancer Research UK and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Most recently Terry was at the Alzheimer’s Society where he was in charge of organisational development, engagement and internal communications.
Governance
Robert Hannigan, a former director of GCHQ, has been named as one of six new members appointed to the board of trustees at Bletchley Park. The museum, which was home to the UK’s codebreaking operation during the Second World War, was a forerunner to the Government Communication Headquarters.
The Bletchley Park Trust board has also appointed: Professor Liz Bacon, deputy pro-vice-chancellor of the University of Greenwich; Natalie Black, deputy director of the Number 10 Policy Unit, and director of the Internet Harms Unit; Liz Bushell, executive director and chief executive officer at Arts Council England; Charles Macdonald, chief executive of Milton Keynes Development Partnership; Adam Singer, chair of Digital Radio UK and the UK Hydrographic Office.
Adventurer and former GB rower and European medallist, Anna McNuff has been appointed as an official ambassador for the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK, Girlguiding.
McNuff, who was herself a member of Girlguiding, has a catalogue of extraordinary adventures under her belt including cycling 11,000 miles through all 50 states in the US and over 100,000 miles along the spine of the Andes, running 1,911 miles along New Zealand’s Te Araroa trail, and most recently completed a three month journey across Canada.
Councillor Terry O’Neill has been appointed as a trustee of The London Marathon Charitable Trust. He was nominated by the Local Government Association (LGA) to replace Councillor Sonja Crisp, who is retiring.
O’Neill has been leader of Warrington City Council since 2011 and is a member of the LGA National Culture, Tourism and Sport Board.
