Socrates Socratous

Socrates Socratous is director of Soc Vat Consultants. His VAT experience exceeds 20 years. Before starting Soc Vat, he spent nearly five years as a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London where he specialised in servicing charities and other not-for-profit organisations and was the head of the national charities and not-for-profit VAT team which included housing associations.

Prior to PwC, Socratous worked for Horwath Clark Whitehill for nine years advising small to medium businesses and charities.

He also spent five years at Customs & Excise, both as an Excise officer and VAT inspector.

He represented both the Whitechapel Art Gallery and Wellcome Trust in appeals to the VAT and Duties Tribunal in 2008, and more recently he has been involved in discussions with HMRC Policy regarding the partial exemption consultation and how it affects charities and the implications of the Garsington decision and the impact on the theatre/museum sectors.
