Greetings, charity friends. Have you been Xeeting this week?
Twitter is now a distant memory as the overlord of the (former) bird app, Elon Musk, has decided to change its name for the first time in its 17-year history.
Last Sunday, he posted: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
Diary asks: what did birds ever do to you, Elon?
Regardless, charities have had fun jumping on the trending topic. Before we continue, Diary would like to apologise in advance for how many times bird is said in the column.
WWF: ‘Twitter’s bird isn’t the only one disappearing’
Some, like WWF, used it to highlight a number of endangered species and prompted supporters to donate to their charity.
Twitter's iconic bird isn't the only one disappearing.

👉 Today, one in eight bird species are at risk of extinction.
But we can save them and their habitats – benefiting people and nature across the globe. RT to spread the word! #TwitterX #TwitterLogo pic.twitter.com/YDBrZoy2Lx
Dogs Trust says #WeRehomeBirdsNowToo
Dogs Trust offered its services to the Twitter bird, who is now reportedly homeless, as they do not want to “discriminate” against their “feathered friends”.
We might be here to rehome dogs but a little birdy told us that this guy is now looking for a new home & we didn't want to discriminate against our feathered friends. We'd love to see him thrive in a new environment that appreciates him for him #TwitterX #WeRehomeBirdsNowToo pic.twitter.com/Qs1B5XZN5H

RNLI saves bird from sea
RNLI met the news of Twitter’s rebrand by posting a video of one of its volunteers saving a bird that had got too caught up surfing the waves.
A little bird told us they're in need of rescue, luckily our crew have some experience in that area! #TwitterX pic.twitter.com/ryupHzaBDP

Speaking of saving birds, Diary did just that the other day when driving by one which appeared to be loafing in the middle of the road.
This columnist jumped out of their (very comfortable) seating position to pick up the bird and put them out of the way of oncoming traffic in a true act of selflessness (apparently no one caught it on camera, which was disappointing).
Once back in the car, Diary’s chauffeur (or partner, if you want to be pedantic) pondered whether Diary had just jeopardised the bird’s true mission, which could have been longing for the sweet release of death.
Diary chose to ignore this, as it got in the way of their saviour narrative and was a bit of a bummer.
Battersea
Battersea Dogs Home warned Musk that the public might take a while to adapt to the new name after it rebranded in 2018 to... Wait, what?
People still call us "Battersea Dogs Home" so good luck #whataboutthecats #battersea https://t.co/FZPQStnM3e

65 mallards in a weir
And finally, three French hens, two turtle doves and... 65 ducks in a weir?
In unrelated bird news, the RSPCA spent this week saving 65 mallards that had got trapped in a dam.
🦆💦 We undertook a quacking rescue and brought 65 mallard ducks to safety after they became trapped in a weir 😱
